Amal or Jadoo

We have seen individuals have adopted the ways of the squatters of Israel engaging in misinterpreting words for their own agenda. The below clarification serves to remove such wicked conspiracies and slanders from the camp which wishes to create further upheavals instead of solving a situation.

A Clarification from Hadrat Mawlānā Mufti Zahir Şahib (Pakistan),

Assalāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. We praise Him and send salutations upon His noble Messenger.

I’ve been asked to clarify the nature of my work, and it seems necessary to do so. That is why while sitting facing the Qiblah, in a state of wudu, al-hamdulillah I want to offer some explanation about what I do.

Generally, a person’s body, business, and relationships these three matters tend to be affected by nazar (the evil eye), hasad (envy), jādü (magic), or the influence of shayāțin (devils). As a result, people may develop various illnesses, and their relationships can suffer. Not only that, but other aspects like one’s religious efforts, or business dealings can also be disrupted. Even a person’s financial situation might be impacted. So these three areas can be afflicted by nazar, hasad, jādū, shayātīn, and sometimes a person’s own bad deeds as well.

Because of these issues, people come here to Jami’ah al-Azhar, and a great number of them arrive seeking help. It’s now about the twenty-first year since Allah Ta’ala granted me the ability to do this. Allah allowed me to listen to people’s problems and, while staying within the boundaries of Shari’ah, to make some effort to help them. That is how people began reaching out to me: we treat them by invoking Allah’s name and using verses from the Qur’an, while firmly believing that only Allah grants shifa (healing).

And al-hamdulillah, Allah has spread this work to many countries around the world. Numerous people have learned it several ‘ulama are engaged in it as well. In our country, for example, there are around 25 or 26 of us ulama’ and muftiyān-e-kirām-who participate in this ‘amal (spiritual practice). The entire ‘amal takes place in the masjid, where we spend roughly eight or nine hours every day, continuously engaged in this work. People come from far-off places, and we carry it out fi sabilillah (for the sake of Allah, without seeking any monetary compensation).

And this all happens in accordance with Shari’ah, within the bounds of proper hijab. There is nothing in it that counts as bid’ah (innovation) or anything that would steer people away from the Shari’ah. Many of our esteemed elders (akābirīn) also place great trust in this work; sometimes they themselves come, or they send their associates here. So the ‘amal that we do is all about removing whatever Shayțānī influences might be affecting a person.

Just as it addresses physical problems, it also addresses relational ones such as issues between husband and wife and other interpersonal matters. This is precisely what we mean by “”amal.” People say, “We came for an amal,” meaning we look at the source of the evil-whether it’s nazar (the evil eye), hasad (envy), jādū (magic), or something from the Shayāțin, who are enemies to humankind and how it has caused problems in their relationships. Once we figure out why it is happening and in what form, we cut it off. We do not impose any subjugation (taskhir) on anyone; rather, we strive to remove the evil itself.

As a result, a very large number of people come for this purpose. And this effort is done solely for the sake of Allah’s pleasure; the ‘amal is performed inside the masjid and has been going on for a very long time. Nearly all of our senior elders (akābirīn) know how this effort is carried out. By Allah’s favor and mercy, there has never been a situation in which someone was harmed by it; rather, it is a means of benefit done purely for Allah’s sake.

In the same way, Hazrat (the respected principal, Hazrat Mawlānā Shabbir Şahib) also got in touch with us. He did so because there are certain issues within the madrasah, and he wanted to know which ‘amal (spiritual measure) we could do so that all forms of evil might be dispelled meaning, any discord that Shaytan has stirred up between people, causing them to differ with one another, should come to an end, allowing the institution to move forward in a state of peace and well-being. We hold Hazrat in high regard precisely because he, mashaAllah, is a follower of the Sunnah and is among our akābirin (senior scholars), among our elders, and he has devoted his entire life to serving the Din.

So that is why (he contacts us). And if, Allah forbid, some particular issue arises if Hazrat gets in touch with us about it-it is because we operate strictly within the framework of Shari’ah, and we do not perform anything outside of it. That is why Hazrat also seeks our help in certain matters, including any personal ailment he may have so that it can be treated. He does so because we invoke the name of Allah, recite the word of Allah (the Qur’an), and conduct ourselves in a manner that is in line with Shari’ah. Only then would he contact us.

In other words, the foundation of our connection is the Din itself, and its cornerstone is correct ‘aqīdah (belief). Otherwise, there are countless people out there who do all sorts of strange things. In any case, these thoughts came to my mind, and I have mentioned them here. May Allah forgive us, and may He never bring a day in our lives where we carry out any form of subjugation (taskhir) or practice jādū (magic) on someone.

Moreover, you people, māshāAllah, are engaged in serving Din, and I’ve also had the opportunity to visit your institution. Over there, mashaAllah, one finds a remarkable environment, full of dhikr (remembrance of Allah), and mäshaAllah, a strong environment of study. Its benefits, māshāAllāh, have spread throughout the world.

Shayţān dislikes all such efforts (of ours), so he strives to sow filth in people’s minds. But as for us, we pray that Allah never brings a day when we do any impermissible ‘amal. In any case, why would we ever need to? Our purpose is to act for Allah’s pleasure. All of the ‘amal that take place here have been going on for a long time, purely for the sake of pleasing Allah. So it obviously cannot be jädü (magic).

May Allah protect all of us, and until our very last breath, may He grant us the tawfiq to live our lives according to His Name, His Kalam (the Qur’an), and the Din of Islām, following the path our elders have laid out for us.

Jazakumullāhu khayran-wassalāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullāhi wa barakatuh.
